Deelay helps you set daily limits on the apps you use, and shows a break screen when you reach one.
Deelay collects nothing and sends nothing. It has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. Everything it reads stays on your phone.
What Deelay reads
To do its job, Deelay reads three things from Android. All three require a permission you grant explicitly, and all three can be revoked at any time in your phone's Settings.
Screen time (Usage access)
Deelay reads how long each app has been in the foreground, so it can tell when an app has reached the limit you set and show you your usage.
Which app is open (Accessibility service)
Deelay is told the package name of the app that just came to the foreground, so it knows when to show the break screen.
It does not read screen content. The service is declared
with canRetrieveWindowContent="false", so Android does not
give Deelay the text, images or fields on your screen — only the name of
the app in front.
Your installed apps
Deelay lists the apps that can be launched from your home screen, so you can choose which of them to limit.
What Deelay stores
On your device only, in Android's private app storage:
- The limits you create — the app or group, the daily minutes, the break length
- Which break is currently running, and when it ends
- App icons, cached so the app opens faster
Nothing here leaves your phone. There is no cloud copy and no backup we hold.
What Deelay does not do
- No account, sign-up, email address or phone number
- No analytics, crash reporting, advertising or tracking SDKs
- No network requests of any kind — the app makes none
- Nothing sold or shared, because nothing is collected
Deleting your data
Uninstalling Deelay removes everything it stored. You can also clear it without uninstalling, from Settings → Apps → Deelay → Storage → Clear data.
Revoking Usage access or the Accessibility service stops Deelay reading anything further; limits stop being enforced.
This website
The app and the website are separate. Everything above describes the app. This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts.
The one exception is the beta signup form. If you use it, your email address is sent to us so we can add you to the Google Play tester list, and it is used for nothing else — no newsletter, no marketing, and it is never passed to anyone. The address is emailed straight to our inbox rather than stored in a database, and it is deleted when beta testing ends. Ask at any time and we will remove it sooner.
Children
Deelay is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Since Deelay has no way to contact you, check this page for the current version.
